What should I do if I misspell a passenger's name on the ticket?

It depends on the mistake; in some cases, you can leave it like that, and in some others, you may have to request a name change with the airline (free or paid) or even rebook the ticket.

Free or paid?
Sometimes airlines allow to update the name for free, sometimes they ask a fee for that.

Usually you do not have to rebook the ticket if:
The name or surname has 3 or fewer incorrect letters. (Unless it changes the name dramatically and makes it a whole different name/surname, e.g. Sam -> Tom)
The name is missing the middle name. As long as the first name and surname are written correctly as per passport, there is no problem.

You definitely HAVE to rebook the ticket if:
The name or surname has more than 3 incorrect letters.
The name order is incorrect. (e.g. On the passport it says "Sam Tom James", but on the ticket, it says "Tom Sam James".
You want to book for a completely different passenger.

Keep in mind that above we described a general rule. Name change/update rules differ per airline and per country. It can happen that there are airlines who do not tolerate 2 or even 1 typo, and any misspelling has to be reported to the airline.
